Folks, in three days’ time we’ll be leaping into Penelope, our faithful Nissan Cashcow, and pointing her bonnet toward the NSW border then rolling on down to Victoria.
For three weeks we’ll be on tour, driving, performing, driving some more, performing again, then driving, driving, driving followed by a little more driving.
There’ll even be some sightseeing!
I’ve estimated we’ll put nearly 5,000klms on the odometer by the time we pull up at home.
Australia is a big, big country, but happily, we love driving, seeing new places and catching up with mates old and new.
The only fly in our ointment is fuel prices.
Two weeks ago, when unleaded fuel was hovering around the $2.00 mark, I conservatively factored the cost per litre for the trip to be around $2.60-ish; to be on the safe side.
Yes, I know, I’m an idiot.
In all the frenzy of rehearsing, organising promo shots and videos, packing, organising accommodation, work, several other ‘things’ cropping up out of nowhere and screaming for our undivided attention, plus all the other demands of everyday life, it completely slipped my mind that the Orange Chimp in the Whitehouse was still waging his ‘Don’t You Dare Call it a War!’ Epstein Distraction in the Middle East.
And that’s going so well perhaps I should have rounded my guess-timate up to $4 per litre?
Right now, I’m hoping we can afford to hitchhike home.
Honestly, I’m not losing much sleep over it, but I am pretty tired from all the galloping about we’ve been doing lately:
Anyway, all going well, this time next week, we’ll be in Tooleybuc and Doll will have finished her first set.
Can’t wait!
I’ll be doing my thing a week later at the Mildura Country Music Festival where Doll and I will sing songs from my debut album and stacks of our favourite hits over four, or so, days and nights.
We’ll even give Dolly and Kenny a run on the boards!
Then, it’s off to Geelong for another Dolly and Kenny outing before we ramble homewards via Sydney and the east coast beaches.
Somewhere in the middle of all that I’ll turn 60 and Doll and I will celebrate our second Wedding Anniversary.
So here we are. Three more nights at home before heading off in a car chock full of music equipment towing Marvin our little camper.
I’ll do my best to keep you all updated while we’re chugging around Oz. And, if we happen to be cruising through your neck of the woods and you’d like to share some of your coffee with us (or your top tip for a place to buy cheap fuel) drop me a PM!
There’s still a lengthy ‘To Do’ List for us to work through in the next couple of days, but right now I’m going to hit the sack and dream about being:
Cheers and Good Night!
